Part 101 - Gyrogliders and Parasails, Unmanned Aircraft (including Balloons), Kites, and Rockets - Operating Rules
This compilation of the above Civil Aviation Rule was made by the Civil Aviation Authority as a reference document to provide details of the current rule requirements. It is not the official version of the Rule and should only be used as a reference document. It does not contain the statement specifying the Rule Objective, and the Extent of Consultation.
Part 101 prescribes the operating rules for persons operating:
This Part addresses the immediate safety risks associated with the use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), and moves Vanuatu towards compliance with international standards and recommended practices with regard to RPAS. Part 101 only applies to RPAs of 25 kg and under that can fully comply with the rules in Part 101. To operate any RPA over this weight, and for operations that cannot comply with Part 101, the operator must be certificated under Part 102. For more information on which Part applies to your operation, please see the Advisory Circulars.
Rockets and Large Model Rockets are defined in rule 101.3 Definitions. Part 101 does not apply to model rockets smaller than those covered in the definitions.
Part 101 also includes a number of additional requirements for free balloons that are based on ICAO recommendations and are similar to the requirements specified by CASA and the FAA. The CAA expects that these additional requirements will improve the tracking, control, and avoidance by aircraft of free balloons.
As gyrogliders and parasails carry persons, there are basic rules in Part 101, Subpart F to ensure that personal risk is minimised.
